Meet the teacher – Emma Guthrie

Bloom Baby Classes Wakefield East, Wakefield West and South Leeds

From the joy that comes with helping little ones develop to having a better work-life balance, thereis a whole range of reasons why our teachers love working with us. This month we chatted to Emma Guthrie, an incredible teacher who has been with Bloom since the classes were only local to Manchester – and, like our community, has been growing baby classes in Wakefield ever since!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m Emma. I’m 33 and live in Pontefract, West Yorkshire with my husband-to-be Sam and mydaughter Eadie. I have been with Bloom Baby Classes since 2019.

What did you do before you joined Bloom Baby Classes?

I used to be a primary school teacher but once Eadie was born, I wanted to prioritise my daughterand have a better work-life balance. I love teaching and making a difference in little ones’ lives, but I found the workload in full-time teaching to be quite a lot.

How did you come across Bloom Baby Classes?

After hearing about baby development franchises and doing my bit of research online, I came across Bloom. I went to meet Bloom’s founder Victoria in Manchester to chat about the business and soon after joined the classes with Eadie to see for myself what Bloom is all about. The classes are a bit of everything – a balance of all the different classes I used to teach my primary school children in a supportive and encouraging environment. The class was like a breath of fresh air and unlike anything I’d ever seen before.

Bloom had always stood out in my search to invest in a business that helped little ones andattending the classes cemented my belief in the business. I knew being both a teacher with Bloomand a business owner would take work, but it would give me the flexibility to spend time with mydaughter. Sam works every weekday from eight in the morning to six at night and I knew if I stayed teaching in schools, I would be choosing my career over my family. It was the right time to take the step – a step which allowed me to have the best of both worlds. I can support newborns’ development whilst prioritising my little girl.

What’s the best thing about being a Bloom Baby Classes teacher?

I love that I am still in children’s lives – but without the pressure! The children benefit from the class by learning key soft skills in an environment that is completely relaxed. We focus on the children, parents and teachers enjoying the classes, so much so that even though my Bloom Baby Classes business covers three areas, I still choose to teach when I can.

Bloom has given me the chance to spend time with my family. As a teacher, I had to work weekends to make sure everything was marked and ready for Monday morning. Now, there is more flexibility, and I can put my daughter first by working around her. I know I am part of a lovely network of like-minded teachers and that I am never on my own.

What are your hobbies and interests?

My family and I like to spend time outdoors walking our dog, Daisy. With our wedding planned forDecember, a mixture of wedding planning and house renovations has kept me very busy recently!
